Support for every kind of loss

Grief isn't only about death. Any loss that changes your life can bring grief with it, and every one of them deserves support.

  • Death of a loved one

A parent, partner, child, sibling, or friend, whether the loss was expected or sudden.

  • Sudden or traumatic loss

Accidents, overdose, suicide loss, or losses that leave shock and unanswered questions.

  • Anticipatory grief

Grieving while a loved one is seriously ill or declining.

  • Divorce & family changes

The end of a marriage, estrangement, or a family that no longer looks the way it did.

  • Life-change losses

A job, your health, a home, or an identity you had built your life around.

  • Pet loss

Losing an animal companion is real grief, and it's okay to need support with it.

When grief may need extra support

Sadness, waves of emotion, and trouble concentrating are normal parts of grieving. It may be time to talk with a therapist if:

  • The pain isn't easing, or it feels just as raw many months later
  • You're struggling to get through work, school, or daily routines
  • You feel numb, stuck, or unable to accept that the loss happened
  • Guilt, anger, or "what ifs" keep replaying
  • You're pulling away from the people and activities that used to matter
  • You're leaning on alcohol or other substances to cope
  • A child or teen in your life is showing changes in behavior, sleep, or school

You don't need to wait until grief feels unbearable. Reaching out early often makes the road easier.

How grief counseling helps

There's no timeline to meet and no "stages" you have to move through in order. Your therapist meets you where you are and helps you:

  • Make space for the loss

A safe place to talk about the person or what you've lost, without rushing.

  • Build coping skills

Evidence-based tools, including CBT, for hard days, anniversaries, and triggers.

  • Work through guilt & regret

Gentle help with the thoughts that keep you stuck.

  • Find meaning & connection

Ways to honor your loss while slowly re-engaging with your life.

When grief is tangled up with substance use, our founder's dual credentials in mental health and addiction mean both can be addressed together. Learn more about our addiction counseling.

Grief support for children & teens

Kids grieve differently from adults. It can show up as anger, clinginess, school problems, stomachaches, or acting as if nothing happened. We work with children ages 9 and up, and with teens, using age-appropriate approaches. Parents are included so the whole family knows how to help.
